"The time is always right to do what is right." - Martin Luther King Jr.
Students have had a fantastic and productive October. After creating a haunted house and 10 different Halloween activities for the whole school, students are ready to get back to a normal schedule. This month, our Remembrance Day ceremony will take place, and report cards will be sent home as we gear up for winter.

Report cards sent home
Students will be made aware that "busy work" will not be assigned to be done at home. Students should be able to complete their daily work in the time given in class. However, if a student does not use their time in class effectively, I may ask for the assignment to be completed at home.
For both grade 5 and 6, I will ask for some short assignments to be completed in order to help with the growth of reading and writing. These assignments should not take more than 20 minutes every night and should allow for students to study for tests and quizzes. I understand that our students and families lead busy lives and I do not intend to overwhelm them with homework.
Thursday spelling tests
Grade 5 and 6 students will be assigned weekly spelling words beginning in the second week of September. These spelling words will be given based on the student's assessed spelling level. Spelling tests will be given every Thursday.
Book talk assignments
In order to encourage grade 5 and 6 students to spend time time reading at home, I assign 5 mandatory book talk assignments to be completed throughout the year. Students may complete book talks as often as they please, with extra book talks being rewarded with Class Dojo points. However, the due dates for the each of the 5 book talks is listed below. The book talk form can be found under the homework tab for students may ask for extra forms during class.
